I Am Poem

I am...

A son, oldest of three, moving around throughout childhood, from metropolitan Chicago to small town Iowa to the happy medium known as Springfield, Missouri.

The eldest brother, a leader and guinea pig for new things, first to start school, first to drive, and, soon, first to graduate this era called high school.

An “A” student, sitting in the front of the classroom, intently listening, working hard, and trying my best to do everything right.

A loyal friend, keeping in contact with friends 8 hours away, and friends just down the street, trying to give everyone the attention they deserve, memories made from weeks at camp, clubs, and even group projects.

A leader in youth group, keyboard player and singer for youth praise band, and a role model for all of those reckless middle-schoolers.

I am...

An outrageous wardrobe full of suspenders, large glasses, and bright colored socks.

Asian cuisine, bought from restaurants and home-cooked with knowledge of two years of life in Taiwan.

A shiny grand piano, perfectly in tune with the room around it.

Boring, old textbooks, studied carefully and thoroughly for years and years to come, notes written in margins, and filled with knowledge.

The taste of long forgotten sodas and juices, nearly two months into a year of drinking nothing but tap water.

A worn planner full of life and color, pens color-coded to match folders for each class, OCD level organization.

I am...

Bright blue eyes and easily sunburned skin, dark brown hair and perfect teeth without the aid of braces.

Cautious and caring, creative and comical.

Never afraid to be myself or to say what’s on my mind.

Trying to include everyone all the time, making others feel welcome, knowing what it is like to be the new kid and feel left out.

Talkative, always having something to say, whether a deep, thought-provoking comment, or a witty sarcastic remark, quite often the latter.

Trevor Cobb, a name that will go down in history.

  1. I enjoy so much about this, Trevor, from the adorable bouncing kitties to your alliteration, and especially your sincerity and kindness. We just went to Chicago this summer and I liked it but I was relieved to return the "happy medium of Springfield, Missouri" myself. Your friends (and group project members!) are lucky to have you. Thanks for creating your blog. I look forward to reading more of your work.
